The shop, which opened this month next to Flo’s Market, specializes in vaporizers, a type of electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) that use a liquid nicotine and flavorings in a vegetable glycerine and propolene glycol base.
Owner Lou Suzay first became interested in vapes when he quit smoking about 5 years ago. He preferred the ENDS experience to the nicotine patch or gum.
“When I first got into vaping, I had to order everything online,” said Suzay, a 1996 Manchester Regional High School grad. “When I found out a vape shop had opened in Clifton, then Paramus, I thought it was the greatest idea ever.”
After tiring of the 20 minute drive to the nearest vape shop, he got the idea to open one closer to his Prospect Park home and found the perfect location in Hawthorne.
“There isn’t another vape shop in the immediate area,” he explained, adding that he hopes to bring in business from William Paterson University, a demographic with growing interest in the trend.
Suzay’s plans for Luv’s Vapes includes a custom mixing station, where customers can create their own blends.
Vape juice comes in an unlimited array of flavors. A former menthol smoker, Suzay started with mint flavored juice, but soon discovered the myriad of options available.
“I hate mint now,” he joked.“Why limit yourself when there are so many flavors to choose from?”
The most popular blend today, he said, is Unicorn Milk, a strawberry cream scent that can be difficult to find.
The new business owner is most excited about the opportunity ho help smokers and former smokers find an alternative.
"I'm selling a healthier lifestyle," he said. "That's something I can really believe in."
Luv’s Vapes is located at 198 Diamond Bridge Ave., Hawthorne. Hours are Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
